Florence Production is a privately owned editorial and production company based in the beautiful Devon countryside. Founded in the early 1980s by Susan Leaper, Managing Director, Florence’s origins lie in editorial, typesetting and graphics.

Florence has always responded rapidly to the changing demands of the publishing sector, growing and developing in the different directions needed. And we have enthusiastically embraced all the advantages of the various technological developments.

As the requirements of the publishing industry evolved, we responded by building our project management and editorial arm to work alongside our production studio — incorporating copy-editing, proofreading and indexing with the whole process overseen by a team of editorial project managers.

Quality control is our watchword, and with all of these key operations under one roof, both editorial and production teams are able to work hand-in-hand bringing titles in to exceptional standards.

As both editorial and production dynamics have continued to change, pre-editing, XML and eBook production have all become integrated into our workflow, each contributing to a modern, fast and effective service.

Our highly dedicated and hard-working in-house staff have grown and developed with the company, thriving in learning new practices and technologies — always prepared to go that extra mile to make sure projects are on time, on budget and of the highest quality. We also call on an extensive bank of experienced freelancers, as and when required.

We are very proud of our outstanding training programme utilizing paid internships. This allows talented individuals to enter the publishing industry armed with a collection of invaluable editorial skills and production knowledge. Some of our past interns will have been taken on full-time within Florence and many have gone on to forge successful careers in publishing.
